Reflective Essay

875 words - 4 pages

In my English 100 class I have learned to stay focus on my thesis and to always make a connection to another book, myself, or something that has happened in the world. My learning outcome for this class was to have different organizational patterns of writing that the audience/reader is able to understand. This semester has been a challenge, with this specific class because, in my writing I have to learn how to incorporate the academic language, so I didn’t only have the choice to improve my writing for my class, but myself in my future English classes also. In my writing I am still learning to explain what I mean by using a specific amount of details, so the amount of practice in class was very helpful.
The one specific area that I have improved in so much is my thesis or my reason for writing. This one specific area has helped my writing get better because, in the beginning my writing was all over the place, now it’s a step by step essay that anyone can understand. I would say that this was the most I improved on because when I received my first essay, on the back it was a big question at the bottom, “What Are You Talking About?”, and as a writer in a business major that’s something I would never want to hear or read. The feedback that I got, I was very ashamed and I began to do some work on my own with my thesis by reading, writing, and doing research. My writing has improved so much from then to now. I can create a purpose even before I start to write, then I decide if I agree or disagree with the article, find reasons why, and add details that relate to the article. Now I can start to finish the beginning of a successful writing career.
The area of my writing where I still need some improvement is the amount of detail I put into my essays. Now it’s like I write so much better but with the multiple, different connections I will have more time trying to focus on the most important. In my revisions there will be “good point”, “excellent point”, and “well said”, but then he told me that I’m adding too much detail. Since that has happened I always remind myself “Don’t go too far with details”, so to make myself remember I would write it on the top of my paper with a pencil so I can remember. The next time that I got feedback and...
