Research is a term loosely used in everyday speech to describe a multitude of activities, such as collecting masses of information, delving into esoteric theories, and producing wonderful products (Williman, N 2005, p8). Research also gives you the opportunity to find a solution to "a major academic problem" and to make "a new and original contribution to existing knowledge" (what is research, n.o). It is importance in the processing and development of a design. Research in design helps approach the design based on examples of the past and our surroundings, which is where precedent studies play the role with respect to interior architecture. "Research is integrated into design: concept-test; analysis-synthesis; experiential; complex intellectual activity; and associations" (Lee, M, n.o) Research enables and supports a design through the entire course of development, stimulating the mind and thereby increasing its scope.Design doesn't have to be new, but it has to be good. Research doesn't have to be good, but it has to be new. I think the best design surpasses its predecessors by using new ideas, and the best research solves problems that are not only new but actually worth solving. So ultimately we're aiming for the same destination, just approaching it from different directions. A good designer, for example, does not begin by creating a design that he then imposes on the users, but by studying the intended users and figuring out what they need. The designer have to design for the user, but he have to design what the users needs, not simply what they says they wants (Design and Research, 2003). Therefore the designer had to research more ideas, more new lighting, and new materials. Moreover, the designer needs to study on style. There is a lot of different style.
