Martin Luther and Cosimo de’Medici are known as some of the most important and influential people on the Western culture. Martin Luther shaped the Western culture socially and religiously with powerful words, while Cosimo de’Medici impacted the economy and politically through money and power.
Cosimo de’Medici changed Florence in many ways by contributing to the Republic of Florence with his strong hand in the establishment of some of the most infamous renaissance masterpieces. Cosimo de’Medici ruled Florence without actually being in power in the political system. Though Cosimo did not actually hold any position in the civil service structure he was the main holder in works of art that drew people from all over the world to look at the beauty. Cosimo ruled Florence due to his enormous amounts of money and power. After many years of spending and earning money, Cosimo decided to invest his money on something good and effective. Cosimo instructed a great amount of artists to construct works of art that would later turn into renowned masterpieces. He assigned artists such as, Donatello, Angelico, and Filippo. To add onto these absurd works of art, Cosimo also helped finishing the Duomo by underdevelopment stricken architect Brunelleschi, sending him into the renowned architect of his time.
Cosimo was also responsible for making it contemporary to invest in the arts. He was the patron of culture, and began a long path of art appreciation and investment in Florentine rulers. Cosimo has circumlocutory influenced hundreds of years of art and extracted a long lasting appreciation of art in citizens and tourists of Florence. Cosimo’s famous strategies of making, spending, and investing money also contributed greatly to Florence. Although he was not a major part of the political system, his money and influences of art and power also reflected upon Florence.
All of these contributions made Florence what it was until this day. Florence became a beautiful and outdoor museum. Without the constant support and promotion of the art world by Cosimo de’Medici and his gaining, spending, and investing money; what is marveled in Florence would not exist.
