Artificial nails come with a long list of pros and cons that you have to into consideration when taking this route with your natural nails. There a various types of fake nails to choose from with unique cosmetic appeal. But with everything that is appealing comes with a few drawbacks that ranges from the harsh chemicals to create the artificial nails and the infections you can contract from the fake nails. With that being said, I believe that without prior knowledge and proper upkeep of artificial nails your natural nails can be introduced to many dangers.
Artificial nails are used to mimic natural nails and give length to those who don’t have any. They are used as a shield from everyday things that can break and injure soft and damaged nails. With artificial nails women don’t have to wait to grow long beautiful and as the industry grows so does the different ways to get these fabulous fingernails. When considering fake nails you are faced two main techniques; acrylic nails and gel nails. Both gel and acrylic nails require a mix of powder and solution to be applied to the nail for successful application. Nevertheless with using powder and solutions you are bound to use chemicals that can alter the natural state of your nails. For most people, artificial nails are a quick hassle-free cosmetic enhancement, but they are very unaware of the harsh chemicals they are being introduced to when they go to the nail salon. 2. MMA creates hard nail enhancement making them more difficult to break. When wedged or caught the thinned nail bed will often break before the MMA enhancement does.
3. MMA will not dissolve in product removers and is usually pried from the nail bed causing a lot of damage to the natural nail.
With all these problems with this one chemical the nail industry had to look to another chemical named Ethyl Methacrylate (EMA). Though it is safer to use than MMA, it is less well researched and should be used with great care. It is less able to penetrate skin tissue like MMA but still can be a potential risk to your respiratory sensitization. Both chemicals have a strong odor and are very flammable so they should be stored safely. Consequently with harsh chemicals like these used there is a chance of serious infections.
Although there are many nail techs that practice safety first any time there is a chemical present in their line of work, there is always a high chance of serious...
