What Makes A Country Rich Or Poor?

2074 words - 8 pages

Many believe that money makes countries rich or poor, but that variable isn’t the only object that makes countries rich or poor. Even though money is involved in the decision of a rich or poor country, there are still a variety of different actions that happen in order to make countries rich or poor. A rich country is interesting because it is full of diversity or complexity. A poor country is worse than desired and can also be a low or inferior quality. These definitions allow for more of a vast consideration of rich or poor countries. A rich country is one that has lots of characteristics, and a poor country is one that focuses on one characteristic.
Countries can be considered rich in quality. Some of these qualities are civilians that are gentleman, intelligent, and kind. These three characteristics can make countries be rich in quality. According to Socrates, a gentleman would include kindness and should rule governments. Since there is a shortage of gentleman in the world, a perfect government isn’t possible. A gentleman would be one who asks plenty of questions, or uses the Socratic Method. Socrates had his own style of teaching. This style was with questions asked to leaders by Socrates or just spectators. Socrates wants men to question everything, and the answer poses another question. These are Socratic debates, which can be considered Platonic ideals and Aristotelian diplomacy (Nails). Intelligence is obviously a factor in rich countries. UNESCO provides a study that says “In developing countries, 200 million people aged 15 to 24 have not even completed primary school and need alternative pathways to acquire basic skills for employment and prosperity.” It states that the education is not being promoted or improved. This is an era where the youth and adults need education the most. Education is at its highest known potential in the current date. Technology has improved, so education has improved. Countries that are poor are directly linked to not investing in education. These governments need to invest their money and energy to help people that have to gain an education (Redman & Sanjines). The skills of gentleman, intelligence, and kindness are needed by civilians and the countries’ economies.
Poor countries contain destructive characteristics. Some of these characteristics they contain are corruption, poverty, and a lack of education. Corruption has a direct link to poverty, which affects both individuals and businesses. Poverty causes a popular vibe of corruption, while corruption also produces more poverty. Poverty is not a good characteristic for countries, and this is because it shows that the countries’ civilians depend on the government for necessities. This should not be a fact, but this corruption “is a form of self-serving influence akin to a heavily regressive tax, benefiting the haves at the expense of the have-nots” (Johnston). The lack of education is a main cause of poor countries. UNESCO says that the lack of education...
